the legend of stillmanors – part 0

With DF 0.40 finally out, and finally patched an even dozen times… I think I’m ready to move on. Yup, it’s received another patch since I formally gave up on Tickwire.

I’m going to be playing primarily on a new machine this time around, but that doesn’t make much of a difference – other than my expectations for the time to generate the world are about to be unrealistic. In fact… stopwatch, go!

So… stopwatch was a bit excessive, but fun. The Planet of Tempests created with all default settings in just under 6 minutes, not bad for 250 years of simulation.

Location

Okay, I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m always tempted to accept the very first location proposed and just go with it. But oy.

This time, I’ve been presented with a mirthful mountain area – 15/16 tiles mountain (with good minerals, but zero trees). The other one tile is apparently a heavily forested swamp with clay and a little soil.

Unfortunately, I think I’m going to have to pass this time around. I really do like having at least some flat land to work with.

Location finder time. Searching for medium elevation, medium temperature, flux layer, multiple shallow and deep metals, and clay… and it turns up a lot of candidate sites:
